What are your options?

Individual health insurance can be purchased through major insurance carriers or through the government-run "Public Exchange" or "Marketplace". It is also possible to buy a policy directly from a health insurance company or use a non-governmental private online exchange.
There are four types of individual health plans with increasing levels of coverage and cost: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. In 2021, if your individual plan deductible is between $1,400 and $7,000, or between $2,800 and $14,000 for family coverage, you can contribute to an HSA.
Other options for health insurance include group coverage plans, parents' insurance plans (if under age 26), and government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid¹.
